When I was a child one of my favorite things to do on a rainy Sunday afternoon, after Church, was to sit in front of the black and white TV and watch Charlie Chan detective movies. I realy liked Detective Chan. He and my Dad shared a first name and the same polite demeanor and he was always the smartest guy in the room. He was often subjected to the derision of more modern investigators around him , including his own "Number 1" son who wanted more than anything to be cool and modern. But in the end Detective Chan was always proven right and usually in front of those who had given him the most trouble, including Number 1 son. Chan was never seduced by the need to be fashionable.Unlike his more "modern" companions he did not disdain the wisdom gleaned from the mists of the past just because they were the old ways. He knew many of these traditional methods had withstood the test of time, not been outdistanced by it.

The global economy has created a market place and job pool that transcends national borders. If a worker lives in a country that has no job available there may be a job open in another country that she can be hired to do.Conversely in many countries, such as the United States, we are told all the time , there are jobs the native born folks simply won't do.But the USA is not the only one in that boat.
Our neighbors to the North are experiencing the same situation. There are jobs in Canada that Canadians will not do.

When you get really mad at someone, no I mean really, really mad at someone what names do you call them? Well if you are like most of humanity it is probably something meant to be hurtful, insulting, demeaning and ugly.It will lurch up from the bowels of the dark places in your soul. With rare exception, my Dad was one of those rare exceptions, when he was really ticked off he would call the object of his anger an addlepate (look it up). He had no discernable darkness within, most of us however, say hideous things. In our rational, calm moments we would never dream of using such words but when in a rage and frustrated ,well that's a different story. So when Charlie Sheen called his ex-wife Denise Richards and left a verbal nasty note on the machine which included the "N" word (racial epithet) and the "C" word (sexist demeaning epithet), his ex-wife released it to the public. Forget the level of intelligence required to leave such a message on the machine of someone who hates your guts, so guess what happens next?

As the warm weather approaches I find myself in a dilemma of sorts.
Here it is.
I read in the U.K. Guardian that the "clothes" police in Iran are cracking down on women who wear "un Islamic dress" and men with "western" haircuts. They are trying to get a jump on the coming summer season when instead of the black sheet (shadur) that most women wear in the land of the Persians, a lot of them opt for lighter colors and scarves pulled back to show part of their hair - a big No No! Some even wear calf length pants. According to the Iranian authorities Islamic dress requires women to wear loose fitting clothing that conceals the female shape and absolutely no hair must show.
